By Paul's example we see how being empowered by the Holy Spirit allows a believer to overcome any circumstances and have joy, commitment, love and patience.Despite the tough journey, Paul was not focused on the location he was focused on the one he journeyed with, the Holy Spirit.

Acts chapter 2 paints for us a picture of what the church was meant to look like. So, as we read this description, I want this description to paint a picture, an image, of what God intended for the church. So Acts chapter 2 starts this way (verse 42): “They (the church) devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” We want to be a praying church. That’s how we want to be known. Not as “the big church” or “the loud Church” (but) we want to be known as “the praying church,” the church that prays. As we look through the scripture today we will see what God has the church to be.

    "Wk 27 Resurrection". Message
The religious and the political leaders of the day had to be secretly celebrating for what they had pulled off in the short span of around sixteen hours. Now there would be no more public rebukes coming to them from Jesus, no more bizarre teaching about loving your enemies, no more awkward moments or flamboyant interruptions in the middle of the temple. No more Jesus.
But that's just what they thought.
God would never allow His own Son to be executed. That would be ludicrous and that would be senseless. Well, in this case it was actually neither. It was love.

    Series: The Story
Before Jesus is led away, Jesus takes advantage of the setting and He briefly calls out the cowardice of the teachers of the law for their nighttime vigilante actions. And in Luke 22 Jesus says this to them. He just looks at them and says, “Am I leading a rebellion that you come at me with clubs and swords? Every day you saw me teaching in the temple courts. You did not lay a hand on me, and you did not say a word to me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.

    Series: The Story
I think sometimes we end up bringing the consumer mentality into the church, and we find ourselves asking questions in church—things like, “Are MY opinions the most important? Are MY preferences being catered to? Am I being noticed? Am I being served?” which is the opposite of the question that we should be asking as members of the church. It’s not, “Am I being served?” It’s, “Am I serving?” But we find ourselves, sometimes, with that kind of spirit in the church. You don’t expect to see that in the church (but) sometimes you do. Jesus shows us a different way. He came to serve not be served.
